Everett Philharmonic Orchestra is thrilled to present three "Masterworks" at its season opener concert on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at the Everett Civic Auditorium. An optional "Stageside Chat" discussing the music with Conductor and Music Director Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs will precede the program at 2:00 P.M. This exciting program includes violinist Patrice Weed Shearer playing the ever-popular "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" by Camille Saint-Saens, and the symphony will also feature two works composed by renowned African American Composers of the twentieth century -- "Andante Moderato" from String Quartet No. 1 by Florence Price and "Afro-American Symphony" by William Grant Still. William Grant Still is sometimes called the "Dean of African American Composers."
Our conductor and Music Director, Dr. Paul-Elliott Cobbs, wrote his doctoral thesis on culturally authentic performance of Still's Afro-American Symphony, and the audience will receive the benefit of that expertise at this exciting concert!
