The Snohomish County Arts Commission unveils the “Seed of Hope” by local artist Tsovinar Muradyan, at Esperance Park on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.  Attendees will observe morning sunlight beaming through a small portal carved in the stone that illuminates a tiny bronze “sprout”.  The sunlight and sprout convey Muradyan’s message “hope grows where light is given”.

“Seed of Hope”

The French sculptor Falconet said “It is necessary for a sculpture to stand out against its background and to declare itself far away from the space within which it is seen.”  The new work by sculptor Tsovinar is an example of how that is done.

Whereas traditional figurative sculpture expresses the psychological-philosophical disposition through its use of human representations, Tsovinar’s contemporary sculpture “The Seed of Hope” generates philosophical thought without a direct figurative rendering. She accomplishes much more via her symbolic and direct use of non-representational form.

“And There Was Light!” is the inspiration for this sculpture.  Light itself is the main participant in the process of creation of our universe.  Light is the main driving force that nourishes us subconsciously.

“Seed of Hope” is a sculptural story told within a mighty rock with a history spanning several millennia.  The rock’s outer surface is colorful and rich from its origins from the earth’s land, the sun and water.

Tsovinar precisely calculated and carved an organic cavity at the top of this massive stone to capture the sun’s light within.  The stone is placed so that it generates a large shadow section on one side.  When the sun’s light penetrates the carved organic cavity, it “meets” the glazed bronze seed, which beautifully symbolizes the powerful connection of the Light to Life itself.
