Shakespeare's romantic comedy set in a wintry forest
December 1-23, 2023
Shakespeare's beloved and accessible romantic comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream" has been adapted to fit the holiday season at Red Curtain.
Local playwright Alex De Roest has transported the well-known characters to Britannia in this Druid-inspired adaptation. The magical residents of the wintry forest, including the puck Jack Horner, play tricks on four young lovers escaping adult supervision and the crude “Mechanicals” as they visit the woods for their play rehearsal. With fairies, magic, and plenty of comedy, “A MidWinter Night’s Dream” is a family-friendly treat for the holiday, although not recommended for children under the age of 8 due to the classical poetic language.
“A MidWinter Night’s Dream” will run for 4 weekends, December 1-23, with performances at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. The final performance, on Saturday, Dec. 23, is a 2 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors/students/military, and $12 for kids 12 and under. Buy tickets online, over the phone at (360) 322-7402, or at the box office Tuesday-Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m.
