Do you know a loved one experiencing the effects of early-stage memory loss?

Edmonds Center for the Arts is thrilled to announce the return of our award-winning Dementia-Inclusive Series, which provides free creative and social enrichment for individuals experiencing early-stage memory loss, their caregivers, families, and friends. 

Launched in 2015, the series is a collaborative effort involving senior services organizations, eldercare and memory care professionals, and arts groups in the Puget Sound region. ECA is committed to providing a space where community members experiencing memory loss feel welcome and valued; where their creative contributions are celebrated; and where joyful quality time can be spent with care partners and loved ones.

The 2024 Dementia-Inclusive Workshop Series: A Community Journey through Art, Music & Movement, is presented by ECA in partnership with SilverKite Community Arts LLCThis series includes three free workshops scheduled from October to December 2024. The workshops will include various activities, including music-making, movement, and visual arts.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

  • Individuals experiencing early-stage memory loss and their caregivers and/or peer support navigators.

  • Caregivers and peer support navigators caring for individuals experiencing advanced memory loss. (Please contact diana@ec4arts.org for further information on how to register as an individual caregiver or peer support navigator)

All workshops take place on Wednesday mornings, from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM, in the accessible lobby space at Edmonds Center for the Arts in Edmonds, WA.

HOW TO REGISTER

  • Participants are asked to register as a pair for the whole 3-month series. 

  • There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

  • The workshop series can accommodate up to 20 participants.

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

  • Each session starts with a 10-minute artistic warm-up activity to foster connection among participants.

     

  • The workshop is then divided into two groups: one for individuals experiencing early-stage memory loss and another for caregivers and peer support navigators.

  • Both groups engage in a 45-minute arts learning activity, which could involve movement exploration, music-making, and/or art creation.

  • Two specialized SilverKite Teaching Artists lead the groups with support from ECA staff.

  • The workshop concludes with both groups coming together for a reflective session where they can share insights and strengthen bonds.
