WE SPEAK

Featuring ANASTACIA-RENEÉ

MARCH 1, 2024 | 7:30PM

Celebrate Black History Month and support talented local artists at ECA's annual WE SPEAK celebration of spoken word poetry and storytelling. WE SPEAK seeks to integrate critically acclaimed artists alongside talented local youth and provide a platform for artists to respond to issues that impact themselves, their communities, and the world.

We are honored to welcome former Seattle Civic Poet Anastacia-Reneé to headline the WE SPEAK stage this year!

Queer writer, educator, interdisciplinary artist, speaker, and podcaster, Anastacia-Reneé is world-renowned for her impassioned performance work that often speaks to the experience of queer and black life in America. She is the author of (v.), Forget It, and Sidenotes from the Archivist and the forthcoming title Here in the (Middle) of Nowhere. In addition to her time as Seattle Civic Poet from 2017-2019, Anastacia-Reneé was Hugo House Poet-in-Residence (2015-2017), Arc Artist Fellow (2020), and Jack Straw Curator (2020).

The WE SPEAK mainstage performance will feature a pre-show discussion led by graphic journalist, poet, and teaching artist Nhatt Nichols, starting at 6:30 PM.
