TIME FOR THREE

The ECA Presents: TIME FOR THREE

Time for Three is an Emmy and Grammy-winning, classically trained string trio that explores an exceptionally diverse variety of musical genres. Having studied at The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and The Julliard School of Music, the superb technical abilities of each member of the trio only begin to describe what makes their unique sound so compelling.

With eclectic musical tastes ranging from classical to bluegrass to rock to jazz to hip-hop, and their penchant for casual dress (even while performing at Carnegie Hall), the group sometimes refers to itself as a "classically trained garage band.” To experience Time For Three live is to hear the various eras, techniques, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew. Bonded by an uncommon blend of instruments and vocals, Charles Yang (violin, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals), have found a winningly unique brand of expression to share with the world.

Earning praise from NPR, NBC, The Wall Street Journal, and the Chicago Sun-Times to name a few, the band has become renowned for their charismatic and energetic performances. Having graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Royal Albert Hall, their inimitable style fits equally well in an intimate setting. The trio has collaborated with artists as diverse as Ben Folds, Branford Marsalis, Joshua Bell, Aoife O’Donovan, Natasha Bedingfield, and Arlo Guthrie.

Time for Three also has a long-standing history of working with contemporary classical composers, such as Chris Brubeck and Pulitzer Prize winners William Bolcom and Jennifer Higdon. Time for Three’s recent commission Contact by Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Puts premiered with the San Francisco Symphony and The Philadelphia Orchestra in the summer of 2022. They also contributed to Jennifer Higdon’s Concerto 4-3 in 2022, released on Deutsche Grammophon. Their newest album, entitled Letters for the Future, was recorded with The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Xian Zhang. Consistently hitting the Billboard Top 10 Classical Recordings charts, this album also won a 2023 Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Solo!

Don’t miss your chance to experience the magic of these virtuosic musicians live when they appear on stage at Edmonds Center for the Arts on March 15!
